UR AIDA works on the ecological intensification and agro-ecology of annual crops on family farms, in the particularly constrained tropical environment in which food security and adapting systems to climate change are major priorities. Its research aims to ensure optimum use of the available resources (eco-efficiency), by exploiting the ecological processes that govern their dynamics within agrosystems.
It calls upon all the techniques and disciplines involved in integrated management of trophic resources and pests and diseases, including varieties. It has developed a wide range of assessment methods and tools for various purposes and different stakeholders, for use on different scales, which make use of modelling or spatial information analysis.
It proposes innovative systems and concrete technical options that are designed and subsequently adapted jointly with local producers and other players. In this way, it helps address the challenges posed by the major societal issues and debates relating to food security, agronomic and environmental balances (carbon, water, minerals), and the interactions between agro-ecosystems and biodiversity or climate change.
