Honeybee populations and wild bee diversity are declining significantly. This has potential dramatic impacts on biodiversity and crop production. The Unit therefore proposes to combine the skills of its research themes, bee toxicology, bee biology and pathology, epidemiology, bee ecology and pollination, around this problem.
It conducts multidisciplinary research at physiological, behavioural, ecological, pathological and toxicological levels on an experimental scale that extends from the cell to the landscape. The real challenge is to understand the biology of species in a global and complex environmental context for which it is necessary to obtain fundamental knowledge on a supra-individual scale.
