UMR 1329 - Laboratory for the study of residues and contaminants in foodstuffs (LABERCA)

The Unit’s historical field is that of food chemical safety and is part of an overall and integrated approach of exposure characterisation, from agricultural supplies to Man and his descendance.
Indeed, LABERCA is endeavouring to generate knowledge linked to sources, transfer and metabolism of the studied chemical compounds, in order to characterise both the consumer’s external (dietary - measuring occurrence in foodstuffs) and internal exposure (impregnation indicator) taking into consideration the same parameters, their metabolites or degradation products in biological fluids and tissues.

More recently and via several collaborative projects, the Unit generates data which contribute to the identification of hazards – in particular for endocrine disrupting substances – through the identification of exposure and/or effect biomarkers signing the exposure to the studied hazard, but also via the study of potential links between prevalence of the parameter (external or internal exposure) and clinical observation.

LABERCA is also the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for risk management issues associated with chemical residues and contaminants in foodstuffs.
