UP CIRAD 106 - Pests and Diseases: Risk Analysis and Control

The unit is working to understand the mechanisms by which pests and diseases invade crops and develop. The aim is to improve risk management, damage forecasts and decision support as regards the steps to be taken. The control strategies proposed take account of the socioeconomic, ethical and/or political contexts, and of the interests of the various stakeholders. Moreover, every effort is made to minimize environmental impact, so as to preserve human and animal health and enable beneficials to play their regulatory role to the full.
The unit focuses particularly on heterogeneous systems such as agroforestry systems, and on the effects of that heterogeneity, which is fundamentally linked to the associated plant biodiversity, on pest populations.
